VigRX Plus Review: What the Clinical Trial Found
Trusted Health Reviews editors ยท October 2026
Is VigRX Plus Effective? The Clinical Evidence
VigRX Plus has a single small placebo-controlled trial from 2012. We cover its results, how the current formula differs, the ingredients, cautions and the guarantee.
In briefChecked October 2026
The evidence is limited, but some men with mild erection problems may benefit. VigRX Plus has one published trial, in which 75 men with mild to moderate erectile dysfunction completed 12 weeks. Erectile function scores went up about 9 points with VigRX Plus and less than 1 point with placebo. Caveats: a small trial, no stated funding, and an older formula at a higher dose. VigRX Plus is our top pick among male sexual-health supplements and has a 67-day guarantee. VigRX Plus is not a treatment for erectile dysfunction; see a doctor about persistent symptoms.
What the one published trial found
Shah et al. (2012) recruited 78 men aged 25 to 50 with mild to moderate erectile dysfunction from clinics in India. Seventy-five completed the study, 39 on VigRX Plus and 36 on placebo. At the end of 12 weeks, the IIEF erectile function score had gone up by an average of 9 points on VigRX Plus, compared with 0.61 on placebo. Gains in desire, orgasm and satisfaction were also reported by the authors. Mostly mild side effects showed up about equally in both groups.
Several limits apply. The trial was small and short, and no outside team has repeated it. Placebo response was unusually low. Its formula had 11 ingredients, taken as 2 capsules twice a day, whereas the current label shows 8 ingredients at 1 pill twice a day.
Key Ingredients
As of October 2026, the official site names eight ingredients and the sales page gives no amounts:
Asian red ginseng: a few small ED trials, with pooled evidence described as suggestive but of low quality
Damiana, muira puama and catuaba bark: backed mostly by traditional use and small uncontrolled studies
Ginkgo biloba: could raise bleeding risk if you take blood thinners
Hawthorn berry and saw palmetto: nothing meaningful on sexual function
Bioperine (black pepper extract): may change how the body handles some drugs
The trial formula also had Tribulus, Cuscuta and epimedium, which no longer appear on the current list.
Our Verdict
Healthy men with mild erection concerns who'd like a herbal product backed by at least one published placebo-controlled trial are the likeliest fit. Keep expectations modest. If you take blood thinners, diabetes medicines or heart medicines, ask a doctor first. Ongoing erection problems can also be an early sign of heart disease, so raise them with a doctor. One small published placebo-controlled trial (2012) found erectile function scores improving more than on placebo across 12 weeks. No outside team has repeated it, and it used an older, higher-dose formula. Expect modest results at best.
The trial took its measurements at 12 weeks. A two-container, 60-day try is what the company suggests. Returned containers have to reach its warehouse within 67 days of delivery for a refund. To keep that option open, decide by about day 55 so returns arrive within 67 days of delivery.
Trial side effects were mostly mild and resembled placebo. Ginkgo and ginseng may change bleeding and blood sugar. Hawthorn can interact with heart and blood pressure medicines, nitrates and ED drugs. If you take prescription medication or have surgery planned, check with your doctor.
Order from the official site. The guarantee page doesn't state that it covers third-party purchases, and counterfeits with hidden sildenafil and tadalafil have turned up. Our guide on where to buy VigRX Plus has more.
We rank it first among male sexual-health supplements mainly because the product itself has a published placebo-controlled trial, which is uncommon in this category. The evidence is still limited, so we don't present it as a sure thing.
